Lots of reasons for this really but basically as Rose will be in school full time as of next Monday I figured blog material concerning my daily life with kids will be scarce so: I am splitting my blogging up into two new blogs.

Firstly this blog (as of this post) will be moving to a new home at http://bohemianmumma.blogspot.com and secondly, I have set up a brand new blog Grounding Times  (which I mentioned in a previous post) in order to focus on myself (selfish as it sounds) and to help channel all my energy into being positive. By having two seperate (but possibly overlapping at times) blogs I can keep Bohemian Mama for talking about being a Mama and sharing our family life and use Grounding Times to talk about the more personal and spiritual side of  life.  Many of you manage both in one place which I am in awe of but as some of you are already aware I am going through a bit of an epiphany at the moment and need a bit of head space. I can’t stop blogging, I need that sense of community in my life, so Grounding Times is my head space I suppose.

Does any of that make sense?!

I hope you can  follow me there (one or t’other or both!)

Ok, so the afore mentioned Toothpaste has got my attention today, well and truly. As the girls brushed their teeth before bedtime I found myself inspecting the ingredients list once again. Nothing else new in there really as far as I can tell…except…..hang on a mo’. What’s this Sodium Laurilsulfate stuff?  (…she Googles furiously just to confirm her suspicions….) Oh, ok that’s not new we’ve known about SLS for years now, but just take a look at that new spelling! Sodium Laurilsulfate (two words instead of three and a couple of letter changes) is Sodium Lauryl Sulphate! What’s my point? Think about this for a moment; You are aware of the need to avoid certain chemicals in your families toiletries and have got into the habit of scanning down ingredients lists for those nasties. You get used to scanning for the names and you become quite quick at spotting “Hexyl Criminal” and pals. Then the manufacturers get wise to this profit damaging anti-chem movement and try a few tricks. Like for example; playing with the way the chemicals are written on the packaging in the hope that we don’t notice them so easily?  Anyone have any views on this?  How does SLS get listed on products in the US?

….Kick’s soap box under the counter and puts kettle on……..

G’night all :)

Yes I know I am supposed to be having a break, bla bla bla….but I just had to draw people’s attention to the fact that Colgate toothpaste contains (among other countless nasties) Triclosan. Quite how long they’ve been putting this in, I don’t know. All I know is that I’ve never noticed it before and I usually do a lot of ingredients list reading when it comes to toiletries. I only noticed it today because the word Triclosan caught my eye as I was brushing my teeth this morning – with Green People’s t’paste I hasten to add!

Now, I’ve been slowly trying to turn my family (DH mainly) round to non-fluoride/ natural toothpastes for some years now but for some reason (availability probably) some of us are still using the evil stuff. Rose uses the Weleda childrens toothpaste and so did Daisy until recently as her adult teeth are pretty much through and she says she prefers something Minty now and has started pinching the Colgate! The trouble is; now that the girls have tasted the Colgate with it’s extra minty freshness and it’s sweetners they are finding it hard to switch to something healthier. DH insists on Colgate (and Lister-bloody-rine!) so I suppose the only thing to do is ask him to keep his chemical cocktails out of our reach thank you very much!

On the subject of the afore mentioned mouthwash, my girls tell me that they saw an advert on the television the other day for a Listerine for Kids!!! I shudder at the thought. I just don’t understand why it’s acceptable to dowse the delicate membranes of our mouths with such harsh chemicals. Surely it’s a fastrack into the bloodstream even if you are spitting it out!

Anyway, aside from all that I am enjoying the break. Thanks to all those who left supportive comments. I am going to continue with my low profile for a bit longer I think. I’ll be honest, I am online some of the time but I am being very selective about what I’m doing here and what I read. Just for  now you understand, whilst I heal. I have started a new blog.  It is really supposed to be therapy. I am not allowing comments on the new blog for the time being,  just so I can have my thoughts to myself so to speak, but as I feel myself re-awakening I will change this. If you would like to follow then it’s here: http://groundingtimes.blogspot.com

I have decided to take a break from online life until after the children go back to school in September. As you will have read in my last post I am struggling a bit at the moment and find it far too easy to pick up my laptop when things get too much. For this reason I have decided to logg off and hide it away in a cupboard until the children have returned to school and I have recovered from this low point that I’m hovering on at the moment. I do feel I have recovered enough in the last couple of days to be able to regain some control of the situation, so I am seizing the moment and am going to dive straight into being pro-active, starting with making a “super juice” for breakfast!

Enjoy the rest of the Summer everyone.
